Last Saturday the 16th we had our Under 19 Club Championship played at the Narrows course, With Focus Jonglikit taking out the gross title, firing a steady like always round of even par 72. I would also like to give Focus our best of luck as she is playing in the Women's Open Qualifying next Monday at Royal Auckland and Grange club, play well!

Our Nett winner was Jake Clare, playing of a 12 H'cap this young chap is looking to be a sharp golfer in his years to come, always out with his brother and mates, keep up the great golf champ!!

Its great to see young golfers out enjoying the game, hopefully next year we see you all return plus more to have a crack at the title. Don't forget if you have a young person in your family and they are interested in giving the game a go let us know and we can help out, Andrew takes juniors every Tuesdays and Thursdays with each week being different, always learning and most of all always having fun!

Dipsticks Tournament 14th October

Unfortunately due to this persistent rain we have had to postpone today's Spring Open! The course is still open to those that want to play today and carts are available to members. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Club Championship and Herbert, Waitemata Cups revised dates

Due to the second round of the Club Championship being rained out we will be moving everything back a week. This means for both the men and women the second round of the Club championship will be played on the 9th of September, Semi-final of the Club championship will be played on or 16th of September and the final will be the 23rd of September.

Due to the changes with the Club Championship dates we have also moved the Herbert and Waitemata cup dates. Qualifying will be on Saturday the 30th of September, the first round will be on the 1st of October, second round will be the 7th of October with the final on Sunday the 15th of October. All rounds including the qualifying will be played at the Narrows course.

Atrocious conditions prevailed again today with the greens more like lakes,

but it did not affect Malo Duggan who won the 18 hole bogey round (all

square).

The best of the 9 holers were Jennie Higgins (1 down) and Sandra Berkers

(2 down) That's it for August and we have fingers crossed for better

conditions in September. Some hope!

Wednesday Vets

August 30: 14 players started in great conditions at Narrows, however the rain came and by the time the last groups finished the greens were flooded and the scoring reflected this.

Best gross- Ross Browne 79

Best stableford- George Rogan 37, closely followed by Malo Duggan on 36.

Hidden holes- Colin Vincent.

Payout- 29 points.

During August, there were fields of 15,11, 17 and 14 for Riverside veteran golfers with one Wednesday completely washed out and another day reduced to nine holes. As the weather improves hopefully the numbers will increase. For those of you who are interested in playing on a Wednesday

Tim Brooker and Ross Browne were consistently in the money.

Monthly report:

During August Riverside hosted two Waikato vet golf days. On August 7, despite dire weather forecasts, 49 players representing 15 clubs came to play at the Lochiel course. The course was in great condition and gained many great comments. Local golfer Ross Brown eclipsed the field with a sizzling 75 gross and Ngahinepouri members Warren Rodgers took out the stableford prize with 45 points.

Narrows hosted the Waikato District Veteran Golfers' Association AGM on August 14. Seventy-five golfers attended the meeting and 59 played the course afterwards. In fine and sunny conditions Alan Sarjant, from Waihi, topped the order with a gross 82 and association secretary Graeme Hill, Te Aroha, scored the best stableford with 38 points. Seventeen clubs were represented.

Wednesday Ladies (At Narrows)

Well the weather certainly wasn't our friend last weekend! The usual 72 Hole Riverside Strokeplay wasn't to be with a rain reduced 18 hole tournament it was anyone's game Sunday afternoon. Our very own Riverside players certainly played their part too. Chantelle Cassidy (Riverside) won the Women's division in a playoff birdieing the first playoff hole to snatch the victory from North Harbour's Ella Grimwood.

On the Men's side Christian Nitsche suffered an early setback on Friday. Christian was clubhouse leader enjoying a fine lunch after an effortless 69. Unfortunately all Round 1 rounds were to be scrubbed. However despite the disappointment Christian came out hot on Sunday morning and tore the course up recording 7 birdies and just 2 Bogeys!. After 18 Holes we had three tied at the top. Christian Nitsche, Tom Parker and Matthew Morris went down the first hole, with Christian and Matthew walking away with birdies to eliminate Tom. Second hole, and Christian hit his drive straight up the middle and Matthew left in the trees. Two shots later and both had a par putt from 4-5 feet. With Christian coming away with the win, you guess what happened.. .

Once again we have had another very successful weekend with the Tamahere Shootout 2017, Great numbers and great vibes. Always great to see everyone socializing and enjoying their time on the course.

The 2016 RICOH Waikato Winter Stroke Play was held at the Lochiel Golf Course on 22nd to 24th July attracting a high quality field of 100 men and for the first time 6 lady competitors . The men's field included 8 of the top 20 order of merit players in the country .

After Friday's near perfect weather , the conditions changed on Saturday to showers off and on all day and Sunday the wind arrived along with the rain to test the players ability . At the completion of play on Friday 13 players were under par , but the weather played it's part over the weekend with only 7 payers under par after the completion of play on Sunday .

Saturday's cut was made at 157 with 57 players making up the field on Sunday including Olivia Choo the only lady to make the cut .

Nick Coxon (Riverside) and Jonathan Cane (Royal Wellington) led the field into Sunday's play on 6 under par .

As happens so often the tournament doesn't start until the last nine holes on Sunday . Nick Coxon held a 4 shot lead on 9 under par going into the final 9 holes on Sunday with Luke Brown on 5 under par and Sam Vincent on 4 under par . Coxon doubled the 11th hole which slightly opened the door for Vincent and Brown , but bogeys at 15 & 17 for Brown made it a two horse race . Vincent completed his tournament on 6 under par allowing Coxon the advantage of playing the final hole with a 1 shot lead over last years champion . Coxon made hard work of the last hole needing a 4 foot putt on the last to win . The putt slipped in the left side of the hole securing a 1 shot win for the 2016 tournament ..

Great result to get Riverside members winning two years in a row and also to have Riverside members filling three of the top 6 places in the tournament with Nick Coxon 1st on 281 , Sam Vincent 2nd on 282 and Luke Toomey 6th on 286
